      <description>Donald E. Elliott July 5, 1941 - November 15, 2008 UNCASVILLE, CT&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Donald E. Elliott 67, of 63 Fowler Dr. died unexpectedly Saturday morning at the Backus Hospital. He was born in New London, CT on July 5, 1941 the son of Beatrice (McKay) Elliott of Norwich and the late Kenneth Elliott Donald was employed most of his life as a self employed carpenter renovating apartment buildings. He also worked at Electric Boat and the former United Nuclear Corp. Don enjoyed helping his friends at the V.F.W. Post 10004 in Jewett City. On May 14, 1958 he married his loving wife Iris (Hampe) Elliott of 50 years at St. Patrick Church in Mystic who survives him. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by his precious daughter Vicky Aulik and her husband Craig of Griswold. His two grandsons William and Alan Aulik both of Griswold. Two brothers, Daniel Elliott of Uncasville and Kenneth Elliott of CA. One sister, Elly Keating and her husband Ron of Norwich, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Eilliott. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Guillot Funeral Home, 75 So. B. St., Taftville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the V.F.W.       <description>New London, CT - Blanche Alice Ragona, 91, formerly of New London, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, in Snellville, Ga.&lt;br&gt;She was born in Amherst, Mass. on March 27, 1917. She was the daughter of Augustine and Josephine Petrillo Bonelli. She had been employed as a housekeeper at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital from 1961, until her retirement in 2003.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Morin of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Mary Christman of Waterford; and a brother, John Ragona of East Haven.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Bonelli; three sisters, Rosabella Petrowski, Eleanor Del Rio and Florence Delmonte.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs. Ragona lived her entire life in New London, recently moving to Atlanta, Ga., in June 2008. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a compassionate friend to all who knew her. Her legacy of faith and courage live on after her.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Joseph Church. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Association.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Thomas L. She was the daughter of the late Israel and Edith (Shaw) Corriveau. She was married for 49 years to Tripoli Moscone, who passed away in 1984.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She is survived by two sons, Albert and Vaughn Moscone, both of Groton; thirteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She was predeceased by two daughters, Philomena Forbes, Edith Blair and five siblings.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Her family will receive relatives and friends from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton.       <description>Gloria Martinez Wright was born on December 2, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Gloria was the only child of Henry and Athelia Martinez. She received her education from Fox Lane High School in Mt. Kisco, NY, graduating from high school in 1958. She went on to receive a BA from Endicott Jr. College in Beverly, MA. On August 14, 1960, Gloria was united in marriage to Billy W. Wright of Summerdale, AL. To the union were born three children, Leeanne M. Gowen of Georgia, Julie A. Smith, Asheville, North Carolina, and Mark W. Wright of California. Grandchildren include Noah Wright, Zachary Alexander, and Brittney Gowen. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Billy, her three children and spouses, 3 grandchildren, plus several cousins residing in New York state. During their marriage, Gloria and Billy traveled throughout Europe when Billy was with the US Army for 23 years. Gloria served with the Dept. of Defense in the Engineering Unit of the V Corps. She also worked as Administrator in Civil Service at Ft. Bliss, Texas working on the XM1 Tank. Gloria was an active member in Buddy Gibbs Encounters Sunday School Class and Mud Creek Baptist Church in Henderson. She enjoyed music and participating in the Asheville group of Sweet Adelines as a bass singer when she joined a quartet called "Joyful Noise". Gloria had many friends and was known for her enthusiasm in worship, praising the Lord and witnessing to others about Jesus Christ and salvation. She was a strong supporter of the United States troops and led efforts to send packages to them at Christmas and other times during the year. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, at Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Drive, in Hendersonville, NC at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain at 12:00 PM. Bastian, 101, of Hendersonville,NC passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 at Carolina Village Medical Center. &lt;br&gt;He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School in 1925 and the Ohio State University in 1930. A US Army veteran he was employed as an IRS Agent in the Cleveland area and later continued his career as Controller and Treasurer of the Cleveland Punch and Shears Corporation, where he eventually sat on the Board of Directors. A Henderson County resident for over 38 years, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He is survived by his son Gene MaGruder, and a host of friends. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A memorial service will be held at 10AM, Friday, November 21, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Chapel of the Angels.       <description>Robert Moore Morris &lt;br&gt;Born in Houston, Texas on Aug. 13, 1913&lt;br&gt;Died on Nov. 18, 2008 and resided in Asheville, NC.  &lt;br&gt;  &lt;br&gt;Visitation: Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008  &lt;br&gt;Memorial Service: Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008&lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt;Robert Moore Morris, 95, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at his residence.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Born in The Heights, Houston, TX, on August 13, 1913, he was the son of the late Barney Lockhart and Nancy Jane Moore Morris. His father was a minister in the Christian Church. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Morris grew up in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. He graduated from high school in 1931, in St. Louis. He then moved with his brother to southern California to attend the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Trojan Band and marched in the Rose Bowl Parade on January 1, 1932.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Morris returned to St. Louis and graduated from Washington University in 1936 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was then commissioned to the U.S. Army Reserve. In 1936, he married Barbara Gene Hart. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Morris worked for Monsanto Chemical Co., in Missouri and Massachusetts. During WWII, he was assigned to TNT production for Longhorn Ordinance Works, in Karnak, TX.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;After the war, he worked at Monsanto, in Texas City, TX. He survived the Texas City explosion of April, 1947, and was involved in the rebuilding of the plant and contributed much to the understanding and history of the Disaster. His career continued at Monsanto, and he eventually became the VP of the Organic Division. In the mid-1960s, he became CEO of Wheeling Steel Co. In the late 60s, he went to California for the creation of Norton Simon, Inc. In 1971, he became VP of Northwest Industries and CEO of Velsicol Chemical.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;After retiring in 1978, he became a Federal Bankrupcy Trustee and the owner/manager of Ambiance Restaurant. In 2000, he moved to Asheville, where he was a resident of the Grove Arcade Building. Mr. Morris maintained an active and independent financial trading operation until his death.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his brother, Barney, his sister, Lutie, his wife and mother of his children, Barbara Gene Hart, and his son, Jon Robert Morris.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Morris is survived by his daughters, Susanne M. Glasscock and husband Melbern, of Houston, TX, and Pamela M. Young, of Columbia, SC; wife, Frances Lee Morris; grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth, David, Burke, Amanda, Elizabeth, and Rachel; and great-grandchildren, Larkin, Kyrie, Dexter, and Lorelei.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A memorial service with Asheville neighbors will be held on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.&lt;br&gt;A service in Texas will be held at a later date.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Memorials may be made to the Building Fund for the Susanne Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, Rice University, P.O.       <description>Kelly Lee Kilpatrick, 49, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville,TN after a 14-month battle with ovarian cancer.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A spiritual woman who spent her life making a difference in other peoples’ lives, she held a master’s degree in mental health counseling. She founded and operated The Ripple Effect, a charitable organization in Orlando, Fla., from 1990-2005. As an advocate for the homeless, she helped thousands through her organization by giving them a hand up with Saturday-morning feedings, voice mail and post office boxes. She also helped them obtain identification cards and offered bus rides back to a civil lifestyle with their family members. Her friendship enriched all the homeless to whom she gave a voice in the central Florida community.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A licensed counselor who worked for Camelot School, Kingston, and Youth Villages, Knoxville, she was a member of Association of Business and Professional Women, Red Hat Society and the Yak Yak Sisters. She will be remembered as an inspiring woman whom everyone loved. She wrote beautiful poetry that touched other’s hearts and minds. Many of her poems were published and sold under the name of “Creations by Kelly.” She made two inspiring presentations, one empowering teens and one inspiring women to live life optimistically and to persevere while battling cancer. She had been journaling her experiences and planned to publish a book, “One Curse, Many Blessings.”&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Survivors include father, Barton Lee Kilpatrick Sr. of Lakeland, Fla.; brothers and sister-in-law, William and Sherry Kilpatrick and Buddy Kilpatrick, all of Lakeland; nephews, William Kilpatrick Jr. and Stephen A. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served as a paratrooper. A 63-year member of the American Legion, he was past commander of American Legion Post 51, Bastrop, La. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Sons of the Revolution. An avid gardener, he loved to fish.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was preceded in death by father, Kimball Edgemon; mother, Clara Brown Edgemon; brothers, Cyrus Reuben Edgemon and Kimball Edgemon Jr.; sister, Dorothy Edgemon Senatore; and son, George Rickey Edgemon.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri Edgemon Young and Eugene Young of Sunset, La., and Angela Edgemon Thrash and Keith Thrash of Kilgore, Texas; sisters, Clara Belle Pickle and Alice Chapman, both of Ten Mile,TN and Vivian Gail Pelham of Whitney, Texas; grandchildren and spouses, Colby Brown and Sarah Rabatin, Hartwell Shane and Amanda Young and Shanari Young; great-grandchildren, Landon Allen Rabatin, Logan Young, Kinslee Young, Morgan Taylor and Lee Scott Taylor; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Ten Mile Baptist Church, Ten Mile. Malleck, of New London, died on Nov. 17, 2008, at his home.&lt;br&gt;He was born on Sept. 24, 1921, in Baldwinsville, Mass., he was the son of George and Elizabeth Estonia Malleck.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was the widower of Phyllis McLaughlin Malleck, whom he married in New London on April 11, 1944.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Malleck retired in 1983, from Pfizer, where he was a Lab. Tech Supervisor.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was a communicant and usher at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and New York Sports Team Fan. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling around the world. He was always fully involved with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He is survived by his children, George Malleck of Arlington, Va., Andrew Malleck of Silver Springs, Md., Kevin Malleck of Springfield,Va., and Timothea Kydd of New London; his sisters, Elizabeth Mueller and Theresa Dittman, both of Waterford; his grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew, Elizabeth, Ian, Ashley, and Adam Malleck; Logan and Alexander Kydd and Colin Malleck, and three great-grandchildren.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The funeral procession will begin to assemble at 10 a.m. on Friday at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London and will proceed to a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Huntington St., New London. John was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington and the Knights of Pyithias, John Hay Lodge #6. John was a U.S. Air Force veteran, he served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. John was an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and having coffee with the "guys" at Steve's Place.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A loving husband and father, he leaves his wife, Barbara, his daughter, the apple of his eye, Megan Laskey of Newington; his father, Walter Laskey of Groton; his brother, Bill Laskey and his wife, Karen, and their children, Kristin and Dayne of Gales Ferry; his brother's-in-law, William Richinick of Auburn, Mass., Paul Richinick and his wife, Mary, of Charlton, Mass., and Gary Richinick and his wife.       <description>Waterford, CT - Florence Eleanor (Newbury) Krohn, 101, of Quaker Hill died at her residence Monday Nov. 17, 2008. She is the widow of widow of Albert C.J. Krohn.&lt;br&gt;She was born in 1907, in Groton to Horace Manchester Newbury and Annie Stoll Newbury, she was the seventh of eight children. Her father descended from a long line of sea captains, one of whom was caught in Arctic ice on his whaling ship. Her mother's family descended from a line of stonecutters some of whose work graces the Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She was predeceased by her siblings, Horace Newbury (Irene) of Chicago, Ill., Charles Newbury (Estell) of Groton, Irwin Newbury (Dorothy) of Groton, Ruth Marshall (Arnold) of Hudson Falls, N.Y., Allen Newbury (Mildred) of Groton, Louise Tracy (Edgar) of Waterford, and Tracy Newbury of Groton.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She leaves her children, Karl Krohn of Lakeside, Calif., Karen Krohn and her husband, John Pendergast of Quaker Hill, Dale Borchert and long time companion, Larry Hubbard of Fairfield, Ohio and Peter Krohn of Quaker Hill. She also leaves behind three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Florence was schooled in a one room schoolhouse on Eastern Point in Groton, then went to the Groton Heights Elementary School. She took the ferry across the river from Groton to New London to attend Chapman Tech where she received a ribbon for perfect attendance throughout the four years. She continued on to the New London Business School on State Street. She worked at the Western Union Telegraph Office, Palmer's Bed Quilt Mill, the business office of the Southern New England Telephone Company, and the Faria Company, while raising the family.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She was a great adventurer, traveling by tramp steamer to Panama and touring by 'motor car' to the South with her sisters when young and to England and Europe later. At age 82 she went hostelling from Italy to Denmark with her daughter.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She was an all-around athlete and enjoyed hiking, clamming, oystering, biking and golf. She enjoyed tennis, ice skating and skiing into her 80s when her sight failed. She was always outdoors digging, planting, and weeding her many gardens.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;'Flossie', as she was affectionately known by friends and family, was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern CT, 403 North Frontage Rd., Waterford, CT 06385; or organization of choice.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Services and burial will be private. Backus Hospital.&lt;br&gt;He was born in New London on July 5, 1941, and was the son of Beatrice (McKay) Elliott of Norwich and the late Kenneth Elliott.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;For most of his life, Donald was a self employed carpenter renovating apartment buildings. He also worked at Electric Boat and and the former United Nuclear Corp. Don enjoyed helping his friends at the V.F.W. Post 10004 in Jewett City.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;On May 14, 1958, he married his loving wife, Iris (Hampe) Elliott of 50 years, at St. Patrick Church in Mystic, she survives him.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his precious daughter, Vicky Aulik and her husband, Craig, of Griswold; two grandsons, William and Alan Aulik both of Griswold; two brothers, Daniel Elliott of Uncasville and Kenneth Elliott of California; one sister, Elly Keating and her husband, Ron, of Norwich; and several nieces and nephews.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Elliott.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at the Guillot Funeral Home 75 So.       <description>Old Saybrook, CT - Harry Laurence Connor, 80, of Old Saybrook, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at home.&lt;br&gt;Mr. Connor was born in Lewiston, Maine, on Aug. 24, 1928, the son of the late Harry Daniel Connor and Margaret Gahagan Connor. As a youth growing up in Lewiston, he enjoyed many athletic activities, including boxing, hockey, and football.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Connor attended St. Patrick's School in Lewiston from grade 1 through 8. His family then moved to Venice, Calif., where he attended Venice Polytechnic High School. The family then returned to Lewiston, where he graduated from Lewiston High School in 1946.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Following high school, he attended the Newman Preparatory School in Boston, Mass., then entered Bates College, where he studied journalism. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1951, and served aboard the USS Briareus, AR12, and the USS Proteus, AS19. He was honorably discharged in 1955. While in the service, he met Margaret Holly of Groton, and they were married in 1955. Margaret preceded Harry in passing in February, 2003.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;After his military service, he attended the University of Maine and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, graduating from the latter in 1959. Upon graduation, Harry became a reporter for the Hartford Courant, and he and Margaret settled in Old Mystic.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Between 1959 and 1968, he was employed by General Dynamics Corp. as a technical writer and editor and public relations assistant, and also worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, science editor, corporate public relations man, and college teacher before joining the University of Delaware staff in 1968. He was the Director of the Office of Public Information at Delaware from 1969 until 1979, earning his MA in Communications in 1976.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;From 1979 through 1981, he worked as the Director of Public Information at Miami University, where he also taught Journalism.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In 1981, he and Margaret returned to Connecticut, where Harry worked as a Technical Writer and Editor at General Dynamics in Groton, then moved over to the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center in New London as a Technical Writer and Editor. He earned several awards and recognitions in this position before retiring in 1993. Margaret became permanently disabled in 1981, and Harry devoted his life to caring for her at home and providing her with the fullest life possible until her death in 2003.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In 2006, Harry began a happy new chapter of his life when he met Judith Gardiner of Old Saybrook at a cookout at the home of Scott Schoonmaker, his nephew. Harry and Judy were married in June, 2007, and settled in Old Saybrook.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was a devoted father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. His hobbies included golf, travel, reading, liberal politics, and listening to the music of the big bands.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Surviving are his beloved wife, Judy, son, Andrew, his wife, Greta and their daughter, Margot; and son, Colin, and his partner, Morgan Grimes.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Remembered are his wife, Margaret, sister, Margaret and brothers, Kenneth and Jerome, who predeceased him.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at the First Church of Christ in Saybrook (Congregational), 366 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT 06475, Ph. 860-388-3008. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Estelle Terry White; daughter, Linda of Powell; son, Gary of Lenoir City; granddaughter, Alicia Maples of Lenoir City; sister, Gertrude Steen of Kannapolis, N.C. .
