I have the marriage record for a couple, and nothing much to go on to help break down the brick wall of the wife's lineage...or even clues as to her birth date.
So I am thinking that if we can determine this minister's denomination, I can look in Church records for the next part of the trail.
On 18 March 1841, M. P. Utderman married my grandmother's 2nd great grandparent's, Samuel W Bassett and Jane Ann Dunham. His signature was followed by the phrase "Minister of the Gospel"...
This union took place in Mansfield, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
Samuel came from a long line of Puritans (and a few Quakers). I know nothing of her ancestral religous preferences...their descendants worshiped in Wisconsin as Methodist Episcopal, but that may have been due to the availability of the church in this new area.
I could use some help on this one.
My only other birth data comes from census information, putting her born about 1818...Massachusetts.
Thank you.
