Wasco Infant Drowns in Three Inches of Water
WASCO (Kern Co.), Jan 22 -
James Efseaff, the 16-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Efseaff, was drowned yesterday in a tub containing only three inches of water.
The child's parents were picking cotton and he was being card for by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Efseaff. He had been asleep in the house while the grandparents were cutting potatoes in the garage nearby. It is presumed he awoke and toddled into the yard and fell head first into the tub. The quantity of water in the tub was not sufficient to cover his head but it prevented him from breathing freely through his nose and mouth and he strangled to death before he was found by his grandparents.
Last July when the family home was burned the child was saved from the fire by the heroic action of a relative of the family, Mrs. Max Popoff.
Coroner N. C. Houze was due to arrive here from Bakersfield today to conduct an inquest, Deputy Sheriff Charles Brunk investigated the tragedy.
The funeral services will be held in the Janzen Parlors in Shafter tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Elder Alex Emerald of the Shafter Russian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Shafter Cemetery.

CA Birth Index: EFSEAFF JIMMIE 1933 08 30 AKOFF MALE KERN
CA Death Index: Efseaff, Jimmie, age 1 year, died 1/21/1935 in Kern County, State File# 1083
Are the grandparents listed in the obit Petro Grigorievich Efseaff and Onya Ahayevna Botieff?
I'm related to Mrs. Max Popoff, but would like to know the connection to the Efseaff family.
Would the father be William Peter Efseaff? I do not know the mother; could be 'Beliakoff'.
Please advise.
