Kick Kills Tot Trying to Drive Horses to Father
KERMAN (Fresno Co.) Oct. 25 - Mike Bolderoff, 4-year old Kerman child, died last night in the Kerman Hospital of injuries suffered when he was kicked by a horse a few hours earlier.
John Bolderoff, father of the boy, believes the accident occurred while his son was attempting to drive three horses across a field to the Bolderoff house shortly after lunch time.
Bolderoff recalls telling his wife during lunch that he would go after the horses as soon as the meal was over. He found it necessary to do several other things first, and believes the 4-year-old lad, who often had accompanied him to get the animals, had resolved to assist his father by performing the task alone.
When Bolderoff started for the horses he heard the family dog barking and the sound led him to where Mike was lying on the ground, his chest crushed.
Bolderoff carried the boy to the office of Dr. J.C. Drake here, where the child was found to have suffered internal injuries. He was taken at once to the hospital, where he died. Coroner J. N. Lisle took charge of the body.
Bolderoff is at a loss to explain any of the three horses kicking his son, as the animals were gentle and the children often played around them. He believes one of the animals must have become frightened by some action of the child.
The Bolderoff ranch is located at McKinney and Humboldt Avenues, eight miles northwest of Kerman.
