I have just started trying to work on my family tree. Without any real family history, it has been tough. One thing that has been confusing is the use of Soundex. How far are you willing to explore variations of spelling, when you have very little info to start with? Is it worth leaning from Bavaria to Hungary in the 1800's, for example?
